Using the internet to communicate the knowledge base for a repository safety case.

MCM was responsible for initiating and devising a web-based knowledge management tool,‘CoolRep’ to support web-based communication of the Japanese radioactive waste management programme. This platform provides technical and non-technical information in a hierarchical structure, which enables transparency and ease of access.

  • Web-based system developed as a direct response to communication and technical QA problems experienced in production of major safety cases (e.g. YMP, SR-Site)
  • Initially applied to Japanese update of the geological disposal safety case (CoolRep H26) and then to post-Fukushima remediation (Cleanup Navi)
  • Will be used for an overview of the JAEA URL programme (“CoolRepH26”) and a feasibility assessment of direct disposal of spent fuel (“CoolRepH27”)
